Education

Activities linked to education constitute one of the essential facets of the Center`s existence, and these are aimed not only at students and researchers in general, but also at agents of development, economists and other public figures. This objective translates into the publication of a broad array of works related to development (See publications), but more specifically, into refresher courses on subjects linked to development.

These courses, given by partners and other guest professors, deal with subjects such as the works and views of Celso Furtado, Development, Macroeconomics, the Northeast within the Brazilian Federation and Modern-day Regional Analysis, and are organized during seminars given by the Center, or in partnership with other institutions.

The Center created the course entitled “Macroeconomics and Development”, with IPEA`s Board of Studies and Macroeconomic Policies, which plans to give two lessons in macroeconomics, and two lessons in development, at the end of a week-long conference on the synthesis of the problem of Brazil`s development. Since 2009, fifteen such courses have been organized across the country, in partnership with various local institutions, development agencies, universities, town councils, especially in Belém, Salvador, Goiânia, Fortaleza, João Pessoa, Recife, Florianópolis, Belo Horizonte, Santa Maria, Manaus, Campina Grande.

The Center has also been developing various education initiatives in partnership with the corporative universities of its sponsors, large public or open-stock public-private companies that are also agents of Brazilian development, BNDES, Caixa Econômica Federal, Eletrobras, Petrobras, and Banco do Nordeste do Brasil. In 2010, the first series of conferences was organized at the Caixa Econômica Federal, in Brasilia, entitled “Brazilian Economic Development and Caixa”, integrated into the commemorations of the loans and savings bank`s 150 years. This series, which was transmitted in teleconference to the whole of Brazil, was followed by a competition for best monographs, open to Caixa employees. These conferences, and the winning monographs, were published by the Center, and their content can be found on this website, in PDF.
